Contact-Lens Safety

Before wearing your lenses

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
• Dry your hands completely using a clean, lint-free towel.
• Confirm that the sterile package is sealed and undamaged.
• Check the expiry date before opening the package.
• Do not use a lens that appears damaged, torn, dried out or contaminated.
• Check that the lens is positioned the correct way around.
• If rinsing is required, use only fresh sterile contact-lens solution recommended for the lens material.
• Never rinse or store lenses using tap water, bottled water, saliva or homemade saline.

While wearing your lenses

• Never share contact lenses with another person.
• Follow the maximum wearing time stated in the instructions or advised by your eye-care professional.
• Do not sleep in the lenses unless the packaging and instructions expressly state that overnight wear is permitted and your eye-care professional has approved it.
• Remove lenses before showering, swimming, using a hot tub or exposing your eyes to water.
• Insert lenses before applying makeup.
• Avoid allowing soap, shampoo, hairspray, makeup or cosmetic products to come into contact with the lenses.
• Do not continue wearing lenses that feel uncomfortable.
• Do not use eye drops while wearing lenses unless they are specifically suitable for contact-lens wear.

Cleaning and storage

• Clean, disinfect and store them exactly as stated in the supplied instructions.
• Use only fresh sterile solution intended for the lens material.
• Never mix fresh solution with solution already in the case.
• Never reuse old solution.
• Rub and rinse the lenses with the recommended disinfecting solution where directed.
• Clean the lens case using fresh contact-lens solution and allow it to air-dry upside down with the caps removed.
• Replace the lens case at least every three months or sooner if directed.
• Never use water to clean the lenses or case.
• Do not use homemade saline or transfer solution into an unlabelled container.
• Use enzymatic or protein-removal products only where recommended by the lens manufacturer or your eye-care professional.

Stop wearing the lenses and seek advice

• Eye pain or persistent discomfort
• Redness or swelling
• Discharge or excessive watering
• Burning, itching or unusual sensitivity
• Blurred or reduced vision
• Sensitivity to light
• The sensation of a foreign object in the eye
• Any sudden or unexplained change in vision

When not to wear lenses

• If the sterile packaging is open or damaged
• After the expiry date
• Beyond the stated replacement period
• If you have an active eye infection, inflammation or injury
• If your eyes are unusually red, painful, irritated or dry
• While using eye medication unless approved by your eye-care professional
• If an eye-care professional has advised you not to wear contact lenses

• Remove the lenses immediately.

• Keep the lenses, original packaging and lens case where safe to do so.
• Do not reuse the affected lenses.
